Change to the studio openings for this weekend.

We hope you have a wonderful time visiting the studios on the tour of the arts.

Unfortunately, Studio 14, Doug Butler's, will not be open this weekend due to unforseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Two of Doug's beautiful sculptures are available for viewing or purchase at Studio #9 and 10 on the weekend.

Doug can be reached through his website at a later date for appointments.

Studio Tour weekend!

The artists are ready! They have prepared a variety of new, original art that expresses such a range of talent. You will be amazed, inspired and delighted. There is something for everyone on this tour!

The weather forecast is perfect but no matter what it is, the artists will be here, demonstrating their craft, willing to speak with you about their creative process. This is such a great way to get to know your local arts community, the ones whose work you have always wanted to see.

Hope to see you on the Tour. Don't forget to pick up your ballot for Studio Sleuthing and also have a chance to win that lovely piece of garden art by Michael Pocock.

See you this weekend!

Studio Sleuthing-A chance to win a piece of original art!

During the Studio tour on May 19-21, you have a chance to win a piece of original art by Michael Pocock. The piece will be on display at his studio, #5 on the tour.

Here's what you have to do:  Pick up a ballot from any studio and answer the question as you visit each studio. When you have completed the ballot, leave it at the last studio you visit. All the completed ballots will be entered into a draw the week following the tour. The lucky winner will be notified by email.  What a great way to add some extra fun to the studio tour!

Michael's  Japanese fish, pictured here, would be a lovely addition to any garden all year round. Good luck!

Sand Carving

Eleanor Brownridge who will be joining us this year on the tour has been busy in her glass studio. She tell me, "I’ve just added a new technique – sandcarving -- to my portfolio of glass work.  I’ll be able to demonstrate some of the process of preparing glass for sandcarving during the studio tour."  That sounds intriguing.

This photo is of Eleanor working at her kiln. You will be able to speak with her during the tour about what she is doing in this shot. Check out our Facebook page to see what this new technique looks like when complete. Eleanor will be at Studio #9.

Two weeks to go!

The artists are all busy with final prep for the studio tour. The red and white signs will go up this weekend, the brochures are readily available. If you don't find them, you can print one at www.tourofthearts.ca

You can also stay up to date by following us on Facebook where I try to post more frequently. Check back before the tour for  details on our Studio Sleuthing quiz that takes place during the tour!

Getting ready!

Speeding right along with prep for this year's spring tour! Brochure is off to the printer today and it looks great. Always there are changes. This year was no exception. Studios change, maps expand and advertisers opt in. Once the brochure is done, we update www.tourofthearts.ca and add the latest content. Advertising begins-we are on our way!

But the real work is being done in all the studios. Doug Butler has been carving up a storm. That huge pile of ordinary looking stone from Zimbabwe which was in his back yard, under his talented hand is yielding up  gorgeous pieces. You can see a sample of his work in our brochure when it is posted on line shortly. Or go to our Facebook page and scroll through the photos-you will find him there. https://www.facebook.com/tourofthearts

Check back in the next weeks as I post what the other artists are doing to prepare. That is when I have time to come out of the darkroom!

Early Planning!

It may still be early January but the Studio Tour committee has been very active already!

The applications have started to come in for our 2012 Studio Tour. Some new and very talented artists will be joining our well established artists who have been the foundation of our tour for a while now.

As well, our amazing volunteer, George, has been out talking about advertising space to our sponsors. Again, thanks to our loyal sponsors of the past and welcome to some new ones!

Many of our artists were part of several shows in the late fall, just before Christmas. All deserve a bit of a rest before gearing up for the studio and getting into the creative spirit. Not many rest for very long.

If you are interested in being part of the tour, please check our website for the information and application form. Completed applications must be received by Jan. 31/12 for processing by our committee!

Have a great winter! We look forward to seeing you in the spring for the tour on Victoria Day weekend.

Great weekend!

Thanks to all who visited the Studio Tour of the Arts this past Thanksgiving weekend. I personally enjoyed meeting some new people and talking about my art and the tour.

Attendance was down for many reasons but mostly because of the glorious weather. Golfing, hiking, biking and apple festivals were all competition for the Tour.

That's it for another year. Who knows what next year will bring so check back in the spring to see what we have planned.

Cory

Update for the tour.

What a great weekend this is. The town is busy, the studios and galleries have great art on display and the weather has co-operated.

There are a couple of late changes to our brochure. Wonderactive is not on the studio tour. They are participating in the tour closer to their home. Katie Barnstaple is not open.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, when studios close unexpectedly and we don't know about it, people are frustrated and very annoyed. Understandably so, but our artists commit to both tours back in January. Sometimes life intervenes and we ask for your understanding. There are still many great studios and galleries to visit on the tour.

Thank you.

About

We are a group of well established artists living in the Town of the Blue Mountains, close to the shores of Georgian Bay. Twice a year, we open our studios and galleries to the public so that you may meet the artists and our guests, see our creations and get to know us better. There is something for everyone on this tour!

Most studios are open only on these weekends since our artists are busy with a wide variety of other shows during the year. Great way to visit your favourite studios and have a great day on the shores of Georgian Bay!
